Number Story Video Hits 1 Million Views

The mission of Number Story is to:

  1. Create awareness that ACEs and a toxic stress response may affect our lives as adults.
  2. Provide a deeper level of knowledge and understanding of the wide-ranging impacts of ACEs.
  3. Empower us to prevent, reduce, and heal from ACEs and toxic stress — for ourselves, the children in our lives, and in our communities.

This video — which we created for the Number Story launch — speaks to all three and sets the foundation for learning, understanding, exploration, and healing. And it’s why, within just a short span of time, over a million people have viewed it in its entirety.

We all have a Number Story. Our childhood experiences have shaped our lives, but they don’t get to define our future. We get to write the next chapter.

Unfortunately, none of us are safe.

This included — to my relief — my first pregnancy and post-partum period and serving in high-intensity public health roles through the pandemic, as California’s Acting Surgeon General and previously the office’s first Chief Health Officer.

Number Story Partnership With Vivian Nunez

I love music. Recently, I was listening to a random playlist Spotify generated for me when a song titled “Before I Have A Daughter” by Bre Kennedy started playing. Bre Kennedy sings about building a garden that grows on the same ground where tears have fallen and hearts have also been broken. Her goal is to learn to tend to this garden so that it flourishes on both the good and bad days.
